1936
The NAG Bussing-based Ferrari and Alfa Romeo transporters, as drawn by Mike Sells, based upon photographs, so probably not entirely accurate according to the artist. The Ferrari transporter is seen in 1936 livery and was only used in 1936 and '37, before Alfa Corse took over. The transporter with the Alfa logo is shown in its 1946-1951 Alfetta-transporting guise. 1960
This dark red Bianchi Visconteo (not a Fiat) was regularly used by the Camoradi USA team in 1960. 1964
From 1956 Peter Sutcliffe used a late 40s Leyland Cub with Luton body to transport his MG TD in the first two years, and his Frazer Nash for the next two. The old Leyland, forward control with a petrol engine, was very noisy, slow and thirsty. The car was called Ada, as it was an ex-Ada Washing Machine Co. car. Interrupted by two years of civil service Sutcliffe returned to racing in 1962, now with a Jaguar D-type. He now had bought a Commer five-tonne, also called Ada (seen in the picture, waiting for the ferry at Dover). It was painted in mid-metallic colour, a late-50s model which was to serve him all over Europe. In 1963-'64 Sutcliffe drove an E-type and in 1965 he switched to a Ferrari GTO and a GT40. For 1966 and onwards the Ford remained his racing car, now being towed on a trailer behind a Land Rover. Sutcliffe raced for Scuderia Ferrari, Alan Mann, John Coombs, Filipinetti, HF Squadra Corse before reducing his racing while also driving for Scuderia del Portello. (© Peter Sutcliffe.)
1968
